Great Himalayan National Park
Located in the Seraj Forest Division at the district of Kullu in Himachal Pradesh. Surrounded by Rupi Bhaba Sanctuary in the southeast, Pin Valley National Park in the east, and Kanwar Wildlife Sanctuary in the North, The Great Himalayan National Park is the largest protected area in Himachal Pradesh. Also known as Jawaharlal Nehru National Park, major portions of the national park are perpetually covered with snow and glaciers.
Great Himalayan National Park offers you an opportunity to get really close to the nature and admire its beauty in full bloom. The vegetal cover of the park comprises of Ban Oak Forest, Himalayan Alpine Pastures, Moist Deodar Forest, Moist Temperate Deciduous Forest, Rhododendron Scrub Forest and Western Mixed Coniferous Forest. The flora in the park includes Abies Pindrow, Arundaria spathiflora, Bamboo, Cedar, Deodar, Frittilaria, Gagea, Primula, Iris, Oak, Pinus Wallichiana, and Taxus Baccata.
Great Himalayan National Park provides shelter to 30 species of animals and 300 species of birds. Western Trapogan is the rare bird specie along with the largest population of Himalayan Tahr in Himachal Pradesh habiting the Great Himalayan National Park. The other prominent inhabitants of the Great Himalayan National Park are the Bharal, Blue Sheep, Brown Bears, Common Langur (Presbytis entellus), Goral, Himalayan Black Bear, Leopard, Muntjac, Musk Deer, Ibex, Rhesus Macaque (Macaca mulatta), Serow, Snow Leopard and Wolf.
The best time to visit the Great Himalayan National Park is from the months of April to June and September to November.
