A group of islands at the juncture of the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea makes "The Andaman and Nicobar Islands" and is one of the seven union territories of India. Geography & Climate

The total combined area of the group Islands is 8,249 sq.km and has a total of 572 Islands. Only 36 islands out of 572 are inhabitable. 92% of the total land area of The Andaman & Nicobar are covered with very dense forest.

The climate is tropical and humid with 70%-90% humidity which makes October-May an ideal tourist season.June to September is the perfect time for Monsoon Holidays.

Open For Tourism

It's only the Andaman group of Islands which is open for Tourism and The Nicobar group of Islands is out of bounds for Tourism activities because the majority of people living in the Nicobar Islands are Tribals.

Currently, 26 islands under Andaman group of Islands are open for tourism. The island is full of tropical vegetation and has a dense forest belt which includes exotic variety flora and fauna.

HOW TO VISIT: Port Blair is the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and it is the entry point for visiting the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.Port Blair can be visited by both sea and air routes.

ROSS ISLAND

POPULAR FOR: Sea walk, Museums, Wildlife, Botanical Garden, Sound & Light Show.

HOW TO VISIT: Boat service is available from Andaman water sports complex which takes approx 20 mins to reach Ross Island.

 

 

VIPER ISLAND

POPULAR FOR: Women's jail tour, picnic spots

HOW TO VISIT: Take the Harbor Cruise from Phoenix Bay jetty(Port Blair).It takes approx 20 mins to reach the Island.

 

HAVELOCK ISLAND

POPULAR FOR: White sand beaches, Adventure sports, Scuba Diving, Sea Walk & Kayaking.

HOW TO VISIT: Tourists can reach the Island from Port Blair by government-operated ferries and private cruises.Seaplane and Helicopter services are also available from Port Blair to reach the Island.

ACCOMMODATION FACILITY: Many popular resorts are available here for a stay.

 

CHIDIYA TAPU

POPULAR FOR: Bird watching, Sunset watching & Trekking to Munda Pahad.

HOW TO VISIT: Located at 30 km from Port Blair city.For visiting this place one can rent car or bike.

ACCOMMODATION FACILITY: No hotels and resorts are present although some small eateries are available.It is advisable to carry food and water when visiting this place.

 

JOLLYBOUY ISLAND

POPULAR FOR: Snorkelling activity, White beaches, dense forest & beautiful coral.

HOW TO VISIT: Ship leaves from Wandoor(Port Blair) at 9 AM to this Island.

ACCOMMODATION FACILITY: Hotels and resorts are available.

NEIL ISLAND

POPULAR FOR: White sandy beaches, paddy fields, banana plantations, tropical trees & marine life.

HOW TO VISIT: Govt. The ferry which operates from Port Blair to this Island is the only option available.

MOUNT HARRIET PARK

POPULAR FOR: MOUNT HARRIET is the highest peak in Andaman, Trekking to Madhuban(16 Km long trek through forests) and Bird watching.

HOW TO VISIT: Tourists can take a ferry from Chatham jetty(Haddo, Port Blair) to bamboo float and then take an auto rickshaw to the park.It is an almost 1-hour journey.

ACCOMMODATION FACILITY: A guest house is available for tourists to rest.

 

BARATANG ISLAND

POPULAR FOR: Dense forest with tribes, boats, beaches, birds, caves, mangroves, trekking routes, volcanos & Limestone Caves.

HOW TO VISIT: 110 Km long route from Port Blair passing through Jarawa Tribe reserve to reach Nilambur Jetty.After reaching Nilambur Jetty switch to Ferry which will go directly to Baratang Island.

 

RANGAT 

POPULAR FOR: Gorgeous beaches, waterfalls,

HOW TO VISIT: Bus operates from Port Blair to RANGAT or one can also take Ferries from Havelock, Neil and Long Island to reach here.

LONG ISLAND

POPULAR FOR: Camping, scuba diving & snorkelling

HOW TO VISIT: Tourists can reach here by government boats from Havelock Island and Rangat Island.

HOW TO VISIT: Mayabunder is at the distance of 242 Km by road from Port Blair.

DIGLIPUR ISLAND

POPULAR FOR: Trekking, scuba diving, speed boats, water scooters snorkelling, angling, turtle nesting, Saddle Peak(Highest Peak in Andamans) & Diglipur National Park
