Jammu and Kashmir have attained the distinction of being called Paradise on Earth. This is not without reason, and it is only one who has been to this beauteous land and had but one glimpse of its splendour, that one will realise that words can do this wonderland little justice.
Most people think Jammu and Kashmir to be a place to relax and unwind, with a slow pace that accompanies travel. However, there is a pulse of energy that runs through this state, complete with scores of adventure sport and activity that can be undertaken through the year. Most adventure in Jammu and Kashmir is centred around the mountains and valleys. This is why mountain based and river sport are the most easy to find, and also most enjoyed activities in the state. The mountains are among the tallest in this state, with a dizzying altitude that can set your heart racing. It is here that activities including mountaineering, trekking and paragliding can be enjoyed to their fullest. Kashmir, Zanskar, Ladakh and Kishtwar are the largest zones for mountaineering with peaks of various heights. Gulmarg, Sonmarg and trekking in the Zanskar ranges are the most preferred destinations. If you are among those who cannot miss out on a paragliding experience, look for a host of places where it can be enjoyed. Winter sports are extremely popular, and skiing, heliskiing ice skating and ice hockey are just the beginning for your delights. water sport include fishing, white water rafting, kayaking and canoeing. There are so many rivers that bless this state, and the Indus, Beas, Chenab Spiti and Sutlej give you enough reasons and plenty of places to plough through their waters. Kashmir is best visited through the summer. It is mild and favours all activity greatly. The winters would see most water bodies frozen and not allow you anything except for the winter sports. To be able to partake any adventure in Jammu and Kashmir, you must be in good physical condition, and also be mentally strong ad alert. Those with heart conditions and blood pressure are better off lying low here. Ensure that you have all the supplies required for each sport and all medication. Also adhere to all the advice of your instructors completely. Although there are no set rules, apart from the regulation that some activities must be carried out by those who have a registration and authorisation, you can freely undertake most activities. However, there are certain restricted areas within the state which require special permission before you decide to begin any adventure activity there.
