Snorkelling in Andaman Islands
Snorkelling in Andaman & Nicobar Islands
Snorkeling is an adventure activity which is very popular off the Andaman Islands. If untrained, you can still indulge yourself by remaining just beneath the surface of the water and, with a little practice, you can dive up to 8 to 10 ft under water. Equipped with a mask, snorkel and fins (or flippers) which are available on hire in the islands, Snorkeling offers you the experience of swimming around and studying the exotic wonders of the coral reefs which are very special in this area. You can even dive deeper and peek under a shell or rock to check out hidden sea treasures once you learn to blow hard into the snorkel to clear the pipe of water when you resurface. Snorkeling is an exciting sport that lets you rub shoulders with some unique marine species while you try to imitate them in your floppy flippers. The best places for Snorkeling in the Andaman Islands are the Wandoor National Park-Jolly Bouy and the Red Skin Islands. Cinque Island is another location with some fantastic coral. You can take a three hour boat ride from the Phoenix Bay Jetty in Port Blair, or rent a private boat from Chiriya Tapu (30 km south of Port Blair), to get to Cinque. Snorkeling is also possible off Port Blair at the Sippighat Water Sports Complex near the Fisheries Museum
