There are several rivers which flow through this state, making it possible to try the different waters and their varied temperaments. Towards their northern sources, the fun and excitement of the rivers can be experienced with the rocks, gorges and undulations. Kaudilya, Kumaon, Garhwal and even Barkot are great places to try this activity. In the colder months, skiing is not just a great pastime, but also a spirited activity to try. Garhwal and Kumaon are the best hills to undertake this activity. The government has taken up several measures to ensure the slopes are tended to and rendered suitable for this activity. Trekking is the best way to stay close to nature and take in its beauty. There are several grand treks which can be enjoyed through the most scenic stretches in the state. Needless to say, the call for mountaineers is strong here, with several imposing peaks challenging your grit and strength. The months between April and November are best suited for adventure in Uttar Pradesh. While the summers do get hot in the state, the height and snow of the mountains will keep you well sheltered. Ensure you are in very good physical and mental health to undertake any adventure activity here. The more challenging activities like trekking, skiing and white water rafting should only be taken up after instruction and practice. This is certainly not for those who have health ailments like heart trouble and blood pressure. The ideal sport for such people would be sailing and nature trails. Ensure you are well conditioned to the demands of the sport and also to the climatic conditions before you undertake any activity. There are few restrictions in the state. You must ensure you procure special permissions where needed, and stick to guidelines issued by the government.
