Wildlife - Tour in Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary
Location : East Godavari District near Kakinada port along the Bay of Bengal.
Area : 235.70 Sq. kms.
Access : Rail : 20 km. from Kakinada Railway station and 70 km from Rajamundry Railway station. Air : Nearest Airport – Rajahmundry. Best time to visit : October to May.
Introduction : Coringa sanctuary lies in the east Godavari district near Kakinada port along the Bay of Bengal.The habitat is suitable for salt water crocodile. The area is cut up with a number of creeks of river Godavari. It was declared as a sanctuary in July 1978 to conserve the mangrove vegetation of the estuary.
Wildlife Species : The animals found in the Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary are fishing cats, otters, jackals, estuarine crocodile, sea turtles & birds like sea gulls, pelicans, storks, herons, snipes, ducks & flamingos.
Vegetation : The main species of mangrove forests are rhizophore, avicinia, sonneratia aegiceros.
