The Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) continues to drive industry growth and collaboration with its latest Online Members Meet, building on the momentum of the previous successful session in January. In continuation, ATOAI held its monthly online meet on 28th Feb 2025. This engaging meeting fostered meaningful discussions on key industry priorities, including safety, sustainability, and innovation in adventure tourism across India.

Key Initiatives and Announcements : ATOAI President, Mr. Ajeet Bajaj, outlined significant initiatives aimed at strengthening the adventure tourism sector:
·Participation in the Global Investors Summit in Madhya Pradesh to showcase adventure tourism opportunities.
·Introduction of satellite phones for adventure operators in collaboration with the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, enhancing safety measures.
·Training programs for adventure guides in partnership with the Hanifl Centre and the Ministry of Tourism.
· A renewed call for membership to enhance industry representation and participation.

Upcoming Events & Developments:
·Regional Responsible Adventure Tourism Guide Course: Scheduled in Itanagar from March 7th to 10th, 2025.
·Arunachal Adventure Conclave: An initiative to boost adventure tourism in the region, led by the Department of Tourism, Arunachal Pradesh, in collaboration with ATOAI and Aborcountry Travels & Expeditions.
·National Seminar on Adventure Tourism: A proposed event to bring together stakeholders for insightful discussions.
·Responsible Adventure Tourism Awards: ATOAI is in discussions with Outlook Group to recognize and promote sustainable adventure tourism practices.

Push for Standardization & Safety : In a major move to ensure safety and quality standards, ATOAI is working closely with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to develop comprehensive industry-wide safety and operational standards. Key steps include:
· Establishment of a dedicated Standardization Cell to oversee implementation.
· Formation of a Specialized Subcommittee for Adventure Tourism to define safety protocols, equipment specifications, and competency standards.

Member Engagement & Future Opportunities
Members were encouraged to participate in initiatives such as the Border Village Adoption Program in Arunachal Pradesh. Additionally, ATOAI actively engaged in the Odisha Travel Bazaar 2025, exploring future collaborations, including a potential 2026 convention in Odisha.

Continuing Collaboration
ATOAI remains committed to fostering industry collaboration through monthly member meetings, providing a valuable platform to exchange ideas, discuss emerging trends, and enhance collective growth within the adventure tourism sector. These gatherings aim to strengthen professional relationships and drive industry progress.

Adventure Tourism Seminar – “Adventure Strategy for a New Era” 

The Ministry of Tourism (India), in collaboration with Adventure Tour Operators Association of India, successfully conducted a four-day Adventure Guide Training Programme and Seminar in Bhopal from March 17–20, 2026.

A total of 33 adventure professionals were trained in first aid, CPR, risk assessment, and wilderness emergency response, enhancing safety and operational readiness across trekking, mountaineering, and water-based activities.

The concluding seminar, themed “Adventure Strategy for a New Era,” brought together over 80 industry stakeholders to discuss safety standards, policy reforms, technology adoption, and sustainable growth. The initiative reinforces India’s ambition to emerge as a leading global adventure tourism destination while strengthening industry collaboration and professional standards.

ATOAI AGM 2024–25 and Fellowship Dinner in New Delhi

The Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) successfully hosted its Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the financial year 2024-25 at The Park Hotel, New Delhi, followed by a Fellowship Dinner celebrating industry unity and growth.

ATOAI President Mr. Ajeet Bajaj opened the AGM with a strategic address aimed at elevating India’s global standing in adventure tourism. Key initiatives announced included the adoption of international safety standards, strengthening regional chapters, enhanced guide training programs, and support for women entrepreneurs. The association outlined its vision to position India among the top 10 global adventure destinations by 2034.

Honorary Secretary Mr. Ronny Singh Gulati presented the annual report, highlighting milestones in industry standardization and leadership. Honorary Treasurer Mr. Nirat Bhatt shared a robust financial overview, underscoring ATOAI’s operational strength.

The association extended its gratitude to the Ministry of Tourism, state governments, the Indian Army, and all ATOAI members for their continued support.

The evening concluded with a Fellowship Dinner attended by Mr. Ajit Pal Singh, Regional Director, Ministry of Tourism, who emphasized India’s vast adventure tourism potential and the Ministry’s commitment to capacity-building and collaboration with industry experts.
